U.K. hospital asks staff to give up toasters and kettles to reduce fire risk

Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary's fire alarm problems mean workers at the hospital are also making hourly safety checks

U.K. hospital has asked staff to give up toasters and kettles to reduce fire risk after investigation uncovered serious concerns with its fire alarm system, according to an article on the News and Star website.

Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary's fire alarm problems mean workers at the hospital are also making hourly safety checks.

A report found that inappropriate fire-proofing materials were used in the building. These materials do not meet the minimum requirement to give people at least 30 or 60 minutes to evacuate.

Frontline staff are being trained as fire safety wardens and given extra fire evacuation training to ensure they are prepared for any eventuality.
