UV and HP technologies aid infection control

Manufacturers upgrade their systems to meet specialized needs


Manufacturers of ultraviolet (UV) and hydrogen peroxide (HP) disinfection systems are upgrading their products to meet healthcare facilities' specialized infection control needs, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

No-touch enhanced disinfection methods have become commonplace for two reasons, the article said.

Hospitals face Medicare reimbursement cuts for the number of patients who are affected by health care-associated infections (HAIs) or for readmissions. 

Also, a recent clinical trial found that a combination of manual cleaning and measured-dose UV light results in a 30 percent reduction of infections for patients who stay in rooms previously occupied by infected patients.
