University Hospitals changes equipment at the lab after fertility clinic failure

The hospital has new tanks, alarms and remote monitoring


University Hospitals in Clinic has changed the equipment at the lab after fertility clinic failure, according to an article on the Fox8 website.

The system shared an update with its employees after more than 4,000 embryos were likely destroyed in a storage tank failure at UH's Ahuja Medical Center in March.

The hospital has new tanks, alarms and remote monitoring. The hospital also has hired additional embryologists, nurses and support staff.

A review of all temperature-regulated storage systems at all entities within the health system has been completed. The system is developing a work plan for monitoring of these areas for the future to ensure that the controls in place are appropriate, according to the update.
