Health systems trying to cut costs, emergency room crowding


Urgent care centers are gaining traction in the Toledo, Ohio, area as health systems try to cut costs and emergency room crowding, according to an article on the Toledo Blade website.

One key to managing healthcare costs is treated patients in an appropriate setting and some illnesses can be treated faster and cheaper at an urgent care center or walk-in clinic.

Toledo Clinic recently took over operations of a pair of independent urgent care centers in Holland and Bryan, Ohio. 

ProMedica, meanwhile, has opened five urgent care centers in the Toledo area over the last 18 months and has plans for two more by the end of summer.
