The VA implemented a wide range of physical security techniques and strategies including emergency preparedness training for employees Veterans and visitors after a shooting at the West Palm Beach VA Center, according to an article on the WPTV website.
In 2018, a national spokesperson for the VA said they would improve security nationwide through security cameras, silent distress alarms and fencing.
The spokesperson said metal detectors are not in consideration.
The changes were implemented within six months of an incident where a veteran and double amputee opened fire inside the West Palm Beach VA Center.
