Nurses failed to respond when a patient had a heart attack on the operating table – because no-one could see the flashing lights on an alarm blocked by a vending machine at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, according to an article on the Mirror website.
The hospital said the machine has since been moved and said staff are “committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety for every patient.”
“Whilst we have no record of a formal incident form being received to highlight a potential issue with the positioning of a vending machine, we responded immediately when this was brought to our attention.
“We have ensured that there is no obstruction to the cardiac arrest alarm in our theatre staff room and confirmed that the alarms are in full working order, both audibly and visually.”
