Wisconsin hospital proactive on safety

Mercy Hospital in Devil's Lake offers safety seminars for staff

Employees at Mercy Hospital in Devil's Lake, Wis., recently took part in seminars on emergency management and responding to different kinds of disasters, according to an article on the Devil's Lake Journal website.

Scenarios included a chemical spill, a natural disaster in the community and an armed intruder in the building. Employees also learned about infection control and preventative measures.

The hospital officials hope the employees will be able to better prevent injuries and “will be aware and be able to respond appropriately to a scenario that might occur.”

In addition to the disaster scenarios, an athletic trainer for Mercy’s physical therapy taught hospital staff about injury prevention, from bending and lifting techniques to maintaining good posture.
