Yorktel introduces FeatherMed, a portable telehealth kit at HIMSS 2016

Yorktel (@Yorktelcorp), the worldwide leader in cloud, UC&C, and video managed services, introduced FeatherMed, a self-contained, clinical portable telehealth kit.

FeatherMed is an “on-the-go” telehealth kit that can easily be carried into various remote and home care situations, for emergency or follow-up care with seniors, veterans and chronically ill patients. Packaged in a sleek, ergonomic, small form factor carrying case, FeatherMed is 50 percent lighter and far less bulky than other market offerings.

Utilizing a proprietary video compression technology unique to Yorktel, FeatherMed enables HD, encrypted, jitter-free, face-to-face patient consultations using bandwidth as low as 90 kb, compared to 700 kb required by other devices.

FeatherMed, which is compliant with home health care regulations, solves the problem of delivering quality, efficient patient care in “off site” settings away from the hospital or clinic while drastically cutting costs.

“Home medical care is fast becoming a critical component to serving patients of all ages,” said James Custer, director of healthcare product solutions, Yorktel.

“FeatherMed,” he continued, “answers the need for delivering higher levels of care which are budget friendly, convenient, compliant and eliminate the complexities of telemedicine and video communications. Speed to care can directly impact patient outcomes, so bringing equipment directly to the patient environment can shorten the time to care, particularly in an emergency situation.

FeatherMed is available in three variations:

Primarily for heart-related care, includes the following:

• Stethoscope

“FeatherMed is a nice addition to our portfolio of telehealth endpoints, which connect patients to their clinical care team virtually” said Pete McLain, senior vice president of healthcare, Yorktel. “Yorktel is committed to providing simple, well-designed, state-of-the-art video endpoints — whether that is fixed wall units, mobile carts or, now, portable kits — to facilitate a health system’s growing virtual care network. We back those up with end-to-end infrastructure, services and support so that our health care customers can focus on delivering the best patient care.”
