ePIPE® Team Awarded Two U.S. Patents for In-place Protection of Nonmetallic Pipes, Adding to Existing Portfolio of Over 30 Patents

Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC (PRT), makers of the ePIPE, Lead-Free Leak-Free™ and LeadSmart® product lines, announced that it has been granted U.S. patents #9889469 and #9889470.

These new patents relate to the ePIPE system of in-place pipe restoration where nonmetallic pipes can be protected in-place. Nonmetallic (or plastic pipes) include pipes made of PEX, polybutylene and PVC.

ePIPE is the only protective barrier coating material listed by the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) for use on both metallic and nonmetallic piping systems.
“We continue advancing solutions aimed at protecting metallic and nonmetallic piping systems,” Pipe Restoration Technologies CEO Larry Gillanders said. “In addition to failing metallic pipes, we also encounter failing pipes from the PEX, polybutylene and PVC families of materials. As a result of piping failures, building owners are often faced with damages to their property from leaks and water loss, then are left dealing with the high cost of repair or pipe replacement. Depending on the scope of work, using the patented ePIPE solution, pipes can be restored in-place, in a matter of a few hours."
ePIPE is a NSF 61 approved barrier coating, rated with a 90-minute return to service, for use in potable water pipes from ½” diameter that carry drinking water up to commercial hot standards of 180°F/82°C.

PRT has an existing portfolio of over 30 U.S. and international patents for methods, systems and apparatus focused on in-place restoration of underground and in-building piping systems.
