New pharmacy automation technologies are helping to improve operations and cut costs, according to an article on the Hospitals & Health Networks website.

Lean trends include flexible configurations in a smaller space. As automation cabinet designs become more flexible, hospitals to be creative with space design.

Dispensing cabinets may have a single, smaller tower with interchangeable, modular drawers that provide needed technology in a smaller space. 

This smaller footprint increases flexibility in terms of how and where automated cabinets can be positioned on hospital floors, the article said.
