Bon Secours Begins Construction on Freestanding Emergency Department in Norfolk

It is expected to open in late 2027.

By HFT Staff

Bon Secours has begun construction on Norfolk's first freestanding emergency department (ED).

The ED will be located on the first floor of 155 Kingsley Lane and is expected to open in late 2027. The Virginia Department of Health approved the project through the Certificate of Public Need process in February 2026.

The ED will include nine treatment rooms, provide 24/7 emergency care, as well as diagnostic services. The facility will feature the same technology, clinical standards and level of care found in Bon Secours' hospital-based emergency departments and will be staffed by experienced emergency medicine physicians and clinical teams. Patients requiring hospital admission or a higher level of care will be transferred to the appropriate hospital.
