California Hospitals Expect To Face PPE Shortage For Next 2 Years

Hospitals across the state describe growing PPE shortages

Hospital leaders across California are describing growing PPE shortages. The California Hospital Association said the increase in COVID-19 hot spots, the lack of available testing and the length of time it's taking to get results are fueling the shortages, according to the ABC7 website.

The California Hospital Association expects the supply problem will last two more years. Fixing the problem will require collaboration between hospitals, state and federal governments, according to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Chief Executive Dr. Bernie Klein.

"Wearing a mask, social distancing and washing your hands. If everybody would do those three simple things, we could avoid these peaks," Klein said in the article.

According to the Medical Express website, many facilities have started self-producing PPE and test materials and reprocessing respirators in the face of shortages.
