Detroit hospital cancels surgeries because of discolored water

Patients, staff use bottled water, hand sanitizer at Henry Ford Hospital

Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit canceled several surgeries recently because of bad water, according to an article on the WXYZ website.

The hospital issued an emergency order to stop using tap water after it became discolored.

The hospital said the discoloration is from sediment in the water. At that time, they said it is not considered contaminated.

After a night of flushing and chlorinating the water, the water was running clear, but the hospital continue to rely on bottled water for drinking and hand sanitizer for washing hands.

Henry Ford previously said the discoloration came from a water valve turned on at the M-1 Rail construction site, but hospital has since backed away from pointing to a cause.
