The Health Facilities Management 2014 emergency management survey asked 911 health executives about trends they've seen when dealing with disasters.
From hospitals temporarily losing power to disasters involving mass casualties and total facility destruction, health care organizations have learned valuable lessons and implemented important changes to help them better prepare for future emergency situations, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.
According to the survey, the lessons include:
• Communication plans can always be improved
• All area resources that can be utilized in an emergency should be identified.
• Surge capacity contingency plans should cover sleeping accommodations and other needs of staff when they must remain in the facility
