Philadelphia Department of Public Health honored six area hospitals for their healthy food initiatives through the "Good Food, Healthy Hospitals" program, according to an article on the Philadelphia Business Journal website.
Ten Philadelphia hospitals are participating in the initiative — part of the health department’s “Get Healthy Philly" program — that began two years ago.
The six hospitals honored for their efforts to reduce and prevent chronic disease through the fresh, healthy food they serve to patients, employees and visitors were: Cancer Treatment Centers of America’s Eastern Regional Medical Center, Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia, Jeanes Hospital, Lankenau Medical Center, Temple University Hospital and Temple University Hospital - Episcopal.
Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood operates its own organic farm, which has produced more than 2,500 pounds of vegetables, herbs, fruits and flowers in its first five months.
