Many rural hospitals have closed their doors at in recent years


Rural hospitals should operate like medical clinics is they want to adapt to the changing healthcare delivery model, according to an article on the Healthcare Finance website.

The healthcare delivery model is moving from inpatient care toward more outpatient care and many rural hospitals have been forced to close their doors.

One way forward for rural hospitals is to transition into a community clinic or a specialized care facility, which not only retains certain types of services but provides a more financially sustainable framework. Such facilities typically are partnered with a larger, regional medical center.

The facility open in some capacity, and the partnering medical center benefits as well.
