A COVID-19 outbreak at a Massachusetts nursing home has left five people dead and over 90 residents and staff infected, Boston.com reports.

Windsor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation has 73 positive cases among 89 residents, along with 19 staff cases. A spokesperson for the facility said that the outbreak began on Feb. 21 and has stopped admitting new residents to the home on Feb. 28.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has deployed a rapid response team to the senior care facility to help mitigate the outbreak. According to Boston.com, the team consists of a dozen nurses and nursing assistants that will aid in helping residents with their medication, bathing, hand hygiene practices and auditing the staff’s PPE.

Since the outbreak first began last month, 23 residents and five of the infected staff members have recovered.

In addition to the DPH team, Integritus – which is the parent company of Windsor – has deployed its own infection control team in response to the outbreak.

Mackenna Moralez is the associate editor for the facilities market.
