The 11-bed unit gives EMTs a place to put patients while they wait for a physician to see them in the emergency department.
The cost of moving the rapid transfer unit to a permanant place at the hospital will cost $4 million.
The money is coming from the province's infrastructure maintenance program, which is getting a 16-per-cent increase over the amount budgeted by the previous Progressive Conservative government last year.
