A building information model (BIM) allows designers, construction engineers and facilities managers to share information about building components from initial design through ongoing maintenance, according to an article on the FacilityCare website.
When an as-built model is properly set up, facility professionals can port it into their facility management system so space and asset information is available for facilities use from day one of operation.
With this information already in the BIM, model numbers, floor plan details, equipment locations, etc., don't have to be manually entered.
Data about maintenance performed also can flow from the facility management system back to the model.
