Baptist Memorial Health Care to integrate Micromedex from Truven Health Analytics in its EHR systems

ANN ARBOR, Mich.—Truven Health Analytics today announced that Baptist Memorial Health Care — one of the nation’s premier health care systems with an award-winning network dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care for patients — has selected the industry-leading source of evidence-based Clinical Decision Support (CDS), Micromedex Solutions, to integrate clinical referential and patient education resources into its Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems in its hospitals throughout Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi.

Through an ongoing integration relationship with Epic since 2002, Truven HealthTM Micromedex Solutions provide access for clinicians and hospital staff to evidence-based resources in the workflow of their Epic EHR for drug, disease, and lab information – as well as accompanying patient education and documentation; including medication and treatment instructions, and condition and disease education. Micromedex Solutions — used by clinicians in more than 3,500 North American hospitals and more than 5,000 healthcare organizations worldwide — represent a single-source of integration-ready, evidence-based Patient Education, Consumer Education and CDS; including pediatric and neonatal clinical content and resources. Integration of these resources into its Epic EHR applications will save Baptist Memorial Hospitals’ clinicians time during patient encounters, and provide clinically consistent decision-support to make informed treatment and care management decisions without disrupting their workflow.

Micromedex Patient Connect Suite, featuring CareNotes and Micromedex Consumer Health Education, provides patient instructions, education materials and engagement resources for Diagnosis and Condition, Medication, and Laboratory Tests, along with advanced multi-media tools in multiple languages. The integrated resources are specifically designed to work in Epic-specific information systems such as Clinical Reference, ASAP Emergency Department, ClinDoc Patient Education and MyChart systems covering Inpatient, Ambulatory, Emergency and Patient Homecare environments. Integrating Patient Connect resources in the Epic system will allow Baptist Memorial clinicians to access patient-specific educational materials and promote consumer engagement and education through various communication channels – all with consistent, evidence-based content. Baptist believes these tools will help in its goal of becoming a trusted heath information resource for its consumers, patients and community and will augment its Population Health initiatives.

In addition to supporting organizational goals for Meaningful Use attestation and HCAHPS improvement as a part of an Accountable Care Organization, Patient Connect will supply essential tools and consumer education designed to increase loyalty and hospital preference for Baptist Memorial Hospitals through clinically accurate, patient-centered information when and where patients need it. And, by integrating a single source of evidence-based education across multiple platforms, including embedding it in the Epic EHR for access by clinicians in any care setting, Baptist clinicians can inform and engage patients as active participants in their own care while promoting clinical consistency across the care continuum through tools that are convenient, easy-to-use, and efficient for clinicians, patients, and consumers.

Micromedex Clinical Knowledge Suite includes medication, disease and condition, laboratory recommendations, and pediatric and NeoFax neonatal clinical resources. These integrated resources are accessed seamlessly from vendor-specific systems such as order entry, Willow Pharmacy, eMAR and ClinKB systems and further help meet the new Stage II Meaningful Use attestation criteria.
