CDC offers guide to prevent Legionnaires' disease outbreaks

Better water management could have prevented the majority of outbreaks


The CDC said that better water management could have prevented the majority of the major Legionnaires' disease outbreaks in the U.S. in the last 15 years, according to an article on the Becker's Hospital Review website.

The agency has released a toolkit to help organizations improve water system management.

The CDC found the most common sources of building-associated Legionnaires' disease outbreaks included:

• Drinkable water, or water used for showering 

• Cooling towers 

• Decorative fountain/water feature
