The surgical unit at Sonoma West Medical Center in Sebastopol, Calif., was forced to close when mold was discovered in one of the sterilizing sinks, according to an article on the Sonoma West News & Times website.
The facility has no way to sterilize equipment.
A plan for remediation is underway but hospital officials are not able to estimate when the mold will be eradicated because the hospital does not know the extent of the problem.
The week before, the hospital had its bank account frozen by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department, which was contacted by one of the facility's creditors.
