CentroMed Hit with Data Breach

The San Antonio-based hospital says the breach happened back in June.

By HFT Staff

On June 12, 2023, CentroMed was alerted to potential unauthorized access to their information technology network. Upon learning of this, they immediately launched an investigation. The investigation determined that an unauthorized party accessed some of their systems on June 9, 2023. While in their IT network, the unauthorized party accessed files that contain information pertaining to CentroMed’s current and former patients, employees, and employee and provider spouses / partners / dependents. Their investigation cannot rule out the possibility that, as a result of this incident, files containing some patient information may have been subject to unauthorized access.

For patients whose information may have been involved in the incident, CentroMed recommend reviewing the statements they receive from their healthcare providers and contacting the relevant provider immediately if they see services they did not receive. CentroMed also encourages patients and others to remain vigilant to the possibility of fraud by reviewing their financial account statements for any suspicious activity. Patients should immediately report any suspicious activity to their financial institution.

On August 11, 2023, CentroMed began providing notice to individuals whose information may have been involved in the incident. In addition, CentroMed established a dedicated, toll-free call center to answer questions that individuals may have. To help prevent something like this from happening again, CentroMed has implemented additional safeguards and technical security measures to further protect and monitor their systems.
