CentroMed Struck with Another Cyberattack

This is the second time the Texas-based healthcare provider has been involved in a cyberattack in under a year.

On May 1, 2024, CentroMed was alerted to unusual activity in their information technology (IT) network. Upon learning of this, they immediately took steps to secure their systems and launched an investigation. Through their investigation, they determined that an unauthorized party gained access to their IT network on or about April 30, 2024. While in their IT network, the unauthorized party accessed and/or acquired files that contain information pertaining to CentroMed’s current and former patients.

Patient names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, financial account information, medical records numbers, health insurance information, diagnosis and treatment information, and claims data may have been involved.

For patients whose information may have been involved in the incident, they recommend reviewing the statements they receive from their healthcare providers and contacting the relevant provider immediately if they see services they did not receive. They also encourage patients and others to remain vigilant to the possibility of fraud by reviewing their financial account statements for any suspicious activity.

On May 17, 2024, CentroMed began providing notice to individuals whose information may have been involved in the incident. To help prevent something like this from happening again, they have implemented additional safeguards and technical security measures to further protect and monitor their systems.
