Cincinnati hospital accused of skirting safety procedures

Former nurse at University of Cincinnati Medical Center has sued the hospital

A former nurse/infection preventionist at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center has filed a lawsuit saying the facility did not follow proper safety procedures, according to an article on the WLWT website.

The nurse oversaw issues relating to infection prevention and outbreak investigations, including disinfection and sterilization procedures.

When increased cases of multi-drug resistant bacteria emerged at intensive care units, the source was determined to be bronchial scopes.

The manufacturer of the scope recommended that UC Health change its cleaning and maintenance procedures for the device.

The hospital said it did not have the resources and it would be too costly, the suit said.
