A computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and a preventive maintenance (PM) strategy can increase a building's life span, save money and reduce equipment downtime, according to an article on the FacilityCare website.

With PM being such an essential tool in any CMMS package, it is surprising how underleveraged PM management is in some healthcare facilities, the article said.

Many facilities fall into this category by being too ambitious, either scheduling way too many PMs or scheduling them much too frequently. 

Getting all organizational stakeholders involved in determining the equipment or processes that should receive routine maintenance checkups and extra care can create system that covers all processes.
