Des Moines hospital issues warning to about 2,600 open-heart surgery patients after two infections were linked to a device used during surgery, according to an article on the Becker's Infection Control & Clinical Quality website.

Heater-cooler devices have been identified as a potential threat to patient safety by both the Food and Drug Administration and the CDC.

They have been linked to nontuberculous mycobacterial infections.

In the last year, other hospitals have issued similar warnings to their patients.
