Fla. healthcare facilities rush to implement new regulations

Owners of nursing homes and assisted living facilities across Florida are scrambling to meet Governor Rick Scott's deadline — imposed after 12 people dies when a nursing home's air conditioning failed during Hurricane Irma, according to an article on the WSBT website.

Facilities have until Nov. 15 to purchase generators and enough fuel to maintain temperatures below 80 degrees for at least four days

Debbie Lytle, who owns and operates three assisted living facilities in Palm Beach County, says that while the safety of seniors is top priority, the approaching deadline is unreasonable and nearly impossible to meet.

Lytle says panic has set in across the industry as other owners struggle to meet the deadline.
