Golfer, Florida university advocates for mobile pediatric hospitals

Partnership is working to raise awareness of the need for mobile pediatric hospitals after natural disasters

Golfer Jack Nicklaus and his wife, Barbara, flew to Washington, D.C. last week to educate federal officials on a collaboration between Florida International University and the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, according to an article on the FIU website.

Staff from FIU’s Academy for International Disaster Planning and the Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work have been working with the hospital to raise awareness of the need for mobile pediatric hospitals after natural disasters.

Although mobile hospitals currently exist, there is yet to be any specifically designed for children.

Nicklaus was joined by hospital CEO Dr. M. Narendra Kini and Director of Governmental Affairs Lani Ferro – as well as  Ruben Almaguer, FIU's assistant vice president of Disaster Management and Planning  and FIU Vice President of Government Relations Michelle Palacio.
