Google Home, Amazon Echo finding place in operating rooms

The technology allows surgeons to devote less time and mental energy to device technicalities

Google Home and Amazon Echo are aiding physicians by answering questions and retrieving information in operating rooms, according to an article on the Becker’s Hospital Review website.

Researchers at the University of California-San Francisco developed a tool for the Google Home smart speaker that processes questions from interventional radiologists and recommends the appropriate medical device size, according to an article from Science Daily.

This technology allows physicians to concentrate more closely on the care of their patients, devoting less time and mental energy to device technicalities, said Kevin Seals, MD, lead author of the study.

There are plans to continue developing the technology to include information on material costs and inventory databases.
