Memorial Healthcare in Owosso, Mich., has switched to a reverse osmosis system for its water after some staining was found on surgical instruments, according to an article on the MLive website.
The stains forced the cancellation of some surgeries.
The hospital's sterile processing department discovered the issue, which led to an evaluation of all instruments.
A hospital official said the staining found did not include any corrosion or pitting on instruments and was not necessarily a danger but can introduce trapping of biologics or other items that can make it more difficult to maintain sterile instruments.
