Healthcare robotics can do some heavy lifting

Automated guided vehicles can handle large material transport activities

Healthcare is using robots in food service, medication distribution, infection control, surgery and diagnosing patients, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

Many believe that robots can curtail labor costs, increase precision and efficiency and replace humans in potentially unsafe situations.

The process of choosing robotic technology should include a review of regulatory approvals and requirements, physician and staff training, staffing impact, infrastructure demands and service and maintenance needs.

Examples of nonsurgical robots include:

• Autonomous mobile transport robots

• Environmental disinfection robots

• Laboratory robots

• Pharmaceutical robots

• Sterile processing robot

• Daily care robots

• Exoskeleton-powered robotic systems

• Noninvasive, radiosurgery robotics

• Telepresence robots

• Therapeutic robots
