A food service aide at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill., saved for a Christmas surprise for the children at the hospital, according to an article on the America Now website.
Jessie Tendayi, 54, a cafeteria worker saved all year and spent nearly $5,000 on around 1,300 toys.
Tendayi, who moved from Zimbabwe to Chicago with her husband around 19 years ago, delivered toys to both Advocate Children’s Hospital and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Tendayi began buying toys for children at the hospital in 2009. That year, she bought 100 gifts for children spending Christmas in the hospital. Every year since, she’s tried to increase that number.
