Hospital staff’s perception can impact cleaning of pediatric wards

Surfaces that are easiest to clean can become most contaminated after cleaning


Preconceived notions can impact how clean hospitals keep their pediatric wards, according to an article  on the Infection Control Today website.

A study in the American Journal of Infection Control found that while metal surfaces should be easier to clean than other surfaces,  this knowledge may have contributed to a lack of cleaning efficiency. 

Contamination on metal surfaces increased 167.68 percent after cleaning. 

Surfaces made from plastic and coated wood had an overall reduction, potentially due to the majority of plastic surfaces being considered as high risk.
