Hospital updates cleaning checklist

Update includes previously overlooked overlooked items

The environmental services team at Summit Health, in rural Pennsylvania, has updated its 175-item terminal cleaning checklist, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

The items now include the whiteboard markers and erasers found in patient rooms.

Last year, the hospital decided to check if other high-touch items  were being cleaned as thoroughly as items on the checklist.

In 55 cleaned patient rooms, 39 whiteboard markers and 52 erasers were tested for the presence of ATP. All of the markers and 50 of the erasers failed the test.
