The new Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) in Ontario, Canada, is now using a real-time location system (RTLS) to help improve security, safety and operational efficiency at the local hospital, according to an article on the Inside Halton website.
The system uses the hospital’s Wi-Fi network to provide real-time updates on the status and location of patients, caregivers and equipment throughout the hospital.
According to OTMH, the RTLS is being used in a number of areas, including:
• The tracking of a equipment, such as intravenous (IV) pumps, mobile diagnostic equipment and patient handling equipment
• 24/7 monitoring of refrigerators and freezers in the laboratory, pharmacy, blood bank and food services to ensure that materials are stored within the prescribed temperature range
