Straub Clinic & Hospital in Honolulu expects to save about $101,318 annually on its electricity bill thanks to the installation of a solar photovoltaic system, according to an article on the Pacific Business News website.
Claire Tong, spokeswoman for Straub Clinic & Hospital, said that when the hospital looked at replacing the roofing of its building, it began to think about installing a solar energy system.
“We’re trying to make sure we save money and be more efficient,” she said in the article. “Hospitals as a whole use a lot of electricity.”
Straub already installed LED lighting about five years ago, and have experienced significant cost-savings in that effort, the article said.
Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Kauai expects to save about $217,000 in energy costs this year through the second phase completion of a new solar PV system. Through the total life of the system, it expects to save about $7.6 million.
