Idaho Nursing Homes Visited By State Inspectors With COVID-19

Inspectors didn't know they were infected

Two state inspectors who visited Idaho nursing homes in July were unknowingly infected with the coronavirus at the time, according to an article on The Idaho Statesman website.

The inspectors were reviewing how well the facilities followed federal rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The state notified four nursing homes about potential exposure, "out of an abundance of caution," according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. The department hasn't been notified of any cases that trace back to the visits.

Three of the facilities inspected in mid-July reported their first cases of COVID-19 among staff one to two weeks after the inspections, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But that timeline also falls with the weeks when Idaho cases hit their peak.

An investigation by the Wall Street Journal found that 26 states don’t require nursing home surveyors to receive regular COVID-19 tests, according to an article. on the Skilled Nursing website.
