When including telehealth in a healthcare facility's strategy, room location and size, flooring, lighting, power, data and conduit pathways are all factors to consider, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

Technology consulting firm GBA, in their article, "Telemedicine and facility design," lists telehealth best practices that can help to guide institutions while this field continues to evolve.

Widespread adoption of telehealth could contribute to $300 billion in savings for the U.S. health care system, according to Goldman Sachs.

An example facility managers can look to when developing a telehealth strategy is the Mercy Virtual Care Center. The 125,000-square-foot facility employs practical solutions, such as privacy screens placed behind caregivers to protect patient privacy and serve as a simple backdrop.
