The Joint Commission announced changes to its survey decision reports that eliminate the advantage of healthcare organizations self-reporting Life Safety Code (LSC) deficiencies on the Statement of Condition Plan for Improvement (PFI) list and also changes how equivalencies are approved, according to an article on the FacilityCare website.
The changes align the Joint Commission’s survey process with the requirements of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the article said.
The CMS has long ordered other accreditation organizations to discontinue providing any relief from survey findings by incorporating a document similar to the PFI list, the article said. It also prohibited those organizations from approving equivalencies.
