Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kan., is implementing a new safety program designed to increase communication among hospital staff by creating a more collaborative environment, according to an article on the Four States Homepage website.
Janelle Wade, director of women's services at Via Christi Hospital, said the hospital's goal is to become an HRO, a high-reliability organization, that is more focused on a safety of culture and less pre-occupied with failure.
Via Christi staff spend an increased amount of time discussing how to prevent dangerous scenarios, including a daily meeting to report safety issues, the article said.
Hospital staff have begun hourly checks on patients to decrease the risk of falling. Hands are washed before and after visiting a patient, according to the article.
