Fire authorities in Limerick, Ireland, warn that that University Hospital Limerick could face legal proceedings if continues to breach its own fire safety regulations, according to an article on the Irish Times website.
The facility has a fire risk assessment threshold of no more than 44 patients in its emergency department at any one time.
Fire officials said the department often has as many as 162 patients at a time and has said the facility is not "fit-for-purpose.”
A new state-of-the-art emergency department is due to open in May.
