Statewide exercise tests rapid response during an earthquake


Maryland hospitals recently took part in a statewide drill to test their response if disaster strikes, according to an article on the WBALTV website.

Beds were on the move at Northwest Hospital as part of a rapid response to a fictional earthquake that healthcare providers had previously only practiced for on paper, the article said. 

Identifying patients, moving them quickly — in some cases without power — and getting each of them down steps was part of the drill.

"Our expectations are for this to be a learning experience. So, we're expecting to have a few glitches along the road, but we have opportunities in place to say that we can say, 'Hey, let's come back and revisit some of these things,'" Ericka Gray Wylie of Northwest Hospital said in the article.
