As COVID-19 cases spike again, Michigan’s healthcare facilities express cautious optimism that they are better prepared than in the spring, according to an article on the Monroe News website.
But while some facilities have stockpiled at least 90 days of PPE supplies, other hospitals barely have a week’s worth.
At Ascension Michigan’s 16 hospitals, for instance, the surgical mask supply will only last six days.
Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine has enough surgical gloves to last only up to six days, but has a seven- to 14-day supply of surgical masks.
According to the Medical Express website, many facilities have started self-producing PPE and test materials and reprocessing respirators in the face of shortages.
