Families First Health and Support Center in Portsmouth, N. H. is using a new mobile healthcare facility to bring services to the homeless, according to an article on the Foster's Daily Democrat website.
The new van is part of the Families First mobile health network that includes other vehicles and brings critical services such as preventive screenings, chronic disease management, substance abuse and mental health counseling to the homeless, low-income individuals and seniors in the community, according to the article. The network travels to locations in Portsmouth, Exeter, Dover and Rochester.
The mobile facility includes a complete exam room.
Staff physician Dr. Eric Samuels says the van reaches people who haven't been seen by a healthcare provider in years.
Once an individual is reached through the mobile program, Samuels said, they often feel more comfortable coming to the health center to continue their care.
