Most organizations don't have business intelligence systems

Survey said BI implementation stalled by data complexity and lack of resources and skill sets

By Healthcare Facilities Today

More than half of health care organizations surveyed have yet to implement a business intelligence (BI) system, according to a poll conducted on behalf of TEKsystems. The survey of more than 250 healthcare professionals, including IT executives and medical staff, found that BI implementation was stalled by data complexity and lack of resources and skill sets.

According to an article on the Health Data Management website, three-quarters of survey respondents indicated that they expected a BI system to be widely used in operations (75 percent), finance (76 percent) and clinical care (71 percent). But 58 percent reported that their health care organization has not yet implemented one.

More than one-third of participants reported that data complexity was the biggest challenge, with lack of a standardized data structure, analysis requirements, and disparate systems and lack of interoperability as contributing factors.
