NIOSH outlines response to sewer gas exposure

Report created in response to request from employees at a Kentucky medical office building about concerns of exposure


The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH ) recently released a report created in response to a request from employees at a Kentucky medical office building about concerns of exposure to sewer gas, according to an article on the FacilityCare website.

The report outlines the results of a 2013 inspection, including problems with duct dampers, heat pumps and a computerized control system as well as with drain traps and certain plumbing fixtures. 

In its report, NIOSH offered several solutions for medical building, including:

• Inspect the building’s heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system and make necessary repairs

• Test and balance the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system
