Good Samaritan Regional Health Center, a 134-bed replacement facility for St. Mary’s Good Samaritan hospital, opened to the public Jan. 27 in Mt. Vernon, Ill.

According to Healthcare Construction & Operations, the 382,000-square-foot health center was designed “combining a holistic healing approach with evidence-based design.”

The center has private patient rooms designed to reduce the distance from the bed to the bathroom to increase patient safety, as that pathway is where 90 percent of patient falls occur.  And the majority of the rooms feature a ceiling-mounted lift to aid staff when moving the patient from bed.

The facility also includes a new chapel with a large, colorful stained glass window and several healing gardens to give both patients and families spaces for reflection, according to the article.

Within walking distance to the hospital, is a new Outpatient Procedure Center that offers services such as infusion, nutrition and blood draw to help shorten patient visits and improve wayfinding.
