A Washington region’s first behavioral healthcare facility focused on teens has opened at Tacoma General Hospital, according to an article on The News Tribune website.
The 27-bed Mary Bridge Adolescent Behavioral Health has state-of-the-art safety features and a nontraditional environment for patients ages 13-18.
Anti-ligature hardware is being used and door hinges go from floor to ceiling. The door frames themselves can be taken apart in a matter of seconds by staff with a special key in case a patient barricades himself in a room.
The windows are shatterproof, the walls are indestructible and the furniture can’t be thrown.
