Ohio health systems establishes own police force

Holzer Health System recently established a police department for some of its facilities

The Ohio-based Holzer Health System recently established a police department for some of its facilities, according to an article on the My Daily Sentinel website.

The police department consists of 11 certified police officers who will patrol the system's Gallipolis and Jackson hospitals, as well as the Meigs Emergency Facility.

“With the increasing need for enhanced security and safety within healthcare facilities across the country, our organization felt it was important to move forward with this type of service,” Karrie Davison, Holzer ’s communications coordinator, said.

The officers are employees of the Holzer police department and commissioned through the state of Ohio; however, many of them are commissioned with another agency such as a village or county sheriff.
